If it gets really hot this summer there are several things that you can do to stay cool apart from buying fans and air conditioning equipment. So here is our hot summer survival guide:
Drink plenty of water
Water is natures natural coolant and will help keep your body cool. In hot conditions the body needs more water so be sure to drink more than you normally would. Also avoid alcohol and caffeine as these can both dehydrate you and take water that you need to keep cool.
Relax
Slow your pace when it is hot as any exertion will take much more effort in hot conditions and if you have to work then make sure that you drink plenty of water.
Avoid dark clothing
Dark clothing absorbs heat and light clothing reflects it and so light clothing is much better and make sure that it is loose too as loose clothing is much more comfortable in hot conditions.
Eat less
Hot weather can increase the chances of digestion problems and eating more also requires more water to digest the food and so in hot conditions it is best to eat small portions.
Use cold water
Cold water can be your best friend in hot weather on the outside of your body as well as in! Using a damp, cold cloth on your forehead can be very nice and also the wrists are very sensitive to heat and so cooling those will help you cool down. Also a bowl of cool water can be used in front of a fan to create a lovely, cold mist and you can also dip your feet in cool water for some nice cooling. You can even dampen your clothing if you are really hot but this is more of a short term solution.
Short hair
For prolonged hot weather you can consider having a hair cut. Allot of heat is lost through the head and so if you have long hair this will insulate your head and keep more of the heat from escaping.
Avoid heat generating items
Items such as ovens, televisions and computers produce heat when they are turned on and so turning them off will help to reduce the temperature of your home.
Cheap air conditioning
There is a way of removing allot of the warm air from your home which involves having only one open window and placing a fan just outside of the window and blowing away from the window. This draws air from your home and also creates a nice breeze near the window.
