These portable air conditioning systems are small and compact and have a hose that is to be lead outdoors so that all of the hot air and moisture can be expelled outdoors. They also need to be plugged into the mains power supply but most have a long power cable and so the main consideration is with placing it near a window but also in a location where you will get the maximum advantage from the air conditioning.
The portable air conditioning units are not as efficient as the fully installed systems and so they will not offer as much cooling power. They also have the problem that you have to have a window open and this can sometimes defeat the object of having air conditioning as warm air is coming in as the cold air is going out. But if you buy a powerful portable air conditioning system and minimise the opening of the window then they can be very effective.
And they are excellent for moving around the house. If you have a bedroom for example that gets very hot in the summer then you can take the portable air conditioning system to that room whenever you need as all of the output goes through the hose and out of the window. They also usually have some small wheels so that you can move them around easily although they can be heavy so be careful if carrying them.
